Welcome to Orchestral Strings at Middle Tennessee State University!

MTSU School of Music offers string players undergraduate degrees in performance, music education, theory-composition and music industry, and graduate degrees in performance, education and composition.  We welcome majors, minors and non-majors to audition for applied lessons and ensembles, including the MTSU Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, (both under the direction of Dr. Carol Nies), the Concert Orchestra and string chamber ensembles.  Those enrolled in private lessons will perform in ensembles, studio classes and in string studio recitals.

Dr. Christine Kim,
Our new cello professor!

          Dr. Kim has performed for concert series throughout the United States, including Da Camera of Houston, the Foundation for Modern Music, and Musiqa.  Dr. Kim has also appeared as a concerto soloist with the La Crosse, Evanston, Madison, and Milwaukee Symphonies.  As an orchestral musician, she has performed with the New Hampshire Music Festival and the Tanglewood Music Center orchestras.  
          Before joining the faculty at MTSU, Dr. Kim served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Cello at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.  She also taught for the Rice University Preparatory Program, as a recipient of the Brown Fellowship.
          Dr. Kim has received degrees from the New England Conservatory and
Rice University.
